How many porta potties do I need? Use the calculator
You need 1 standard porta potty per 50 guests for a 4-hour event, or 1 per 20 workers on a jobsite. Our reps use the same 1-per-50 starting point on every event call. Enter your numbers below; the calculator adds units for long events, alcohol and food, and includes ADA units and sinks.
Event results use our planning method. Crew results use OSHA 29 CFR 1926.51 Table D-1 as the legal floor.
What assumptions does the calculator use?
The event calculator uses fixed steps. It starts at 1 unit per 50 guests for up to 4 hours. It adds 1 per 100 guests past 4 hours, 1 per 100 guests when alcohol is served, and 1 when food is served. At least 5% of units are ADA accessible, minimum 1, counted in the total.
- Base: guests ÷ 50, rounded up.
- Over 4 hours: + guests ÷ 100, rounded up.
- Alcohol: + guests ÷ 100, rounded up, minimum 1.
- Food: + 1 unit.
- ADA: 5% of total, minimum 1 (ADA 213.2).
- Handwashing: 1 station per 4 toilets.
Worked example (hypothetical): a 150-guest, 5-hour reception with a bar and catering: 3 + 2 + 2 + 1 = 8 toilets, 1 of them ADA, plus 2 handwashing stations.
